Clean Memphis Environmental Education Bootcamp

Welcome to the Clean Memphis Environmental Education Bootcamp! Join us for a two-day intensive bootcamp designed for Memphis/Shelby County educators. Learn about environmental science, local environmental issues, and receive a wealth of resources to bring the environment to your students, both in and out of the classroom. We will link all topics to TN Science Standards.

Bootcamp Days and Times

Tuesday, October 8: 10:00am - 3:00pm

Wednesday, October 9: 10:00am - 3:00pm

Course Outcomes (Know, Understand, Do):

Know:

• Learn about local Memphis environmental issues such as the Memphis Sands Aquifer, the local storm drain system, and the solid waste system from local experts.
• Discover ways to reduce the environmental impact of yourself and your students.

Understand:

• Understand the impact we all make on the environment and how to relate general environmental standards to our local environment.

Do:

• Learn how to use the school building and grounds to explore environmental science standards and create sustainable practices in elementary schools.
• Engage in hands-on elementary lessons related to the adult topics learned, with short outdoor explorations linked to existing topics, lessons, and standards.
• Receive numerous resources for classroom use.

Optional Field Trip:

• Thursday, October 10 – Municipal Recycling Facility private group tour. Information about signing up will be sent to registrants in a separate email.
