The United States District Court for Rhode Island is excited to announce a CLE program in civil rights litigation using 42 U.S.C. § 1983. The course is free to all attorneys practicing in Rhode Island. Attendees may register for individual sessions or the entire course.
The course will span the broad territory of civil rights litigation in federal court, from an overview of § 1983’s requirement of state action and the crafting of a complaint, through First, Fourth and Eighth Amendment substantive law, to government immunities and attorneys’ fees. 12 CLE credits for 6 sessions, including 2 ethics credits. The sessions will run biweekly on Tuesdays from January 28 through April 8, from 3:30 – 5:00 pm at the federal courthouse downtown, One Exchange Terrace, Providence 02903.
