Dans le cadre de l’exposition Fragilité entrelacée, La Guilde vous invite à un atelier de céramique avec l’artiste et professeure associée en arts visuels, au département de céramique de l’Université Concordia, Linda Swanson. À partir des procédés naturels de cuisson de la terre, elle propose une activité de création qui rejoint ses intérêts pour sa matière de prédilection, la terre et son processus de transformation.
Assistés par Linda Swanson et notre médiatrice culturelle, les participants réaliseront une œuvre à la main, en argile tout en discutant des caractéristiques de la matière et du processus de création de l’artiste. Après la soirée, l’artiste fera cuire les réalisations dans les locaux de l’Université Concordia, dans un four avec du bran de scie, ainsi les pièces cuites auront un effet de fumée sur leurs parois et pourront être récupérées en galerie les semaines suivantes.

À PROPOS DE L’ARTISTE
L’artiste céramiste Linda Swanson (Montréal, QC) s’intéresse à la nature métamorphique des matériaux et des procédés céramiques. Son travail met en lumière les propriétés énigmatiques des éléments qui composent l’argile (la terre, l’eau et le feu) et vise à explorer le monde naturel à travers sa forme en constante mutation. Ses œuvres en céramique brute et cuite au four ont été exposées aux États-Unis, au Canada et en France.
Linda Swanson a été artiste en résidence à l'European Ceramic Work Center (Pays-Bas) et au Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center (Danemark). Elle a étudié la céramique à l'atelier Tekisui (Ashiya, Japon) et a obtenu un baccalauréat en histoire de l'art de la University of California, Santa Barbara, un baccalauréat en céramique de California State University Long Beach et une maîtrise en beaux-arts du New York College of Ceramics (Alfred University, NY).

As part of the exhibition Entangled Fragility, La Guilde is pleased to present a ceramics workshop with Linda Swanson, artist and associate professor of Visual Arts in the ceramics department at Concordia University. Based on the natural processes of firing clay, she offers a hands-on workshop that reflects her interest in her favourite material, clay and its transformation process.
With the help of Linda Swanson and our Cultural Mediator, participants will create a handmade work in clay while discussing the characteristics of the material and the artist's creative process. Following the evening, the artist will fire the pieces at Concordia University in a sawdust kiln, so that the walls of the fired pieces will have a smoky effect. The pieces will be available for pickup at the gallery in the following weeks.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ceramic artist Linda Swanson (Montreal, QC) is interested in the metamorphic nature of both ceramic materials and processes. Her work engages the enigmatic properties of matter which forms clay (earth, water, and fire) and aims to explore the natural world through its changing form (being and becoming another thing). Her raw and kiln-fired ceramic works have been exhibited in the United States, Canada, and France.
Linda Swanson has been an artist in residence at the European Ceramic Work Center (Netherlands) and the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center (Denmark). She studied ceramics at the Tekisui studio (Ashiya, Japan) and received a BA in Art History from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a BA in Ceramics from California State University Long Beach, and an MFA from New York College of Ceramics (Alfred University, NY).
