About this event
The Clay College full timed Diploma is a skills-based intensive course aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills and confidence to drive their practice.
The course takes students every two years, and with the next intake in September 2026, now is the perfect time for those considering applying to visit the College, see the facilities, ask questions, and get a feeling for the course. Current students and tutors will be on hand to give tours and speak with you one to one to give you more information about what life on the Clay College Diploma is like.
The Diploma follows a structure of project-based learning, where all clay bodies and firing atmospheres are covered sequentially. At the end of each project, feedback is given one-to-one on each student’s output and development.
Based in Stoke on Trent, students are near to clay suppliers and other creative voices. Students are responsible for all aspects of running and maintaining the studio, packing and firing kilns, monitoring stock, giving them firm technical understanding as well as making competency. In the first year, students are guided through these processes and taught best practice and there is no expectation that students know how to do these things before attending college. Likewise there is no minimum standard the student must already be at before applying, and so if you are serious about working with clay, do not miss this chance to come and meet the students and learn more about the course.
We will run subsequent open days in January for those not able to attend this November.
