Coiled pottery predates the potters wheel by centuries and it is still used to make pottery by people around the world.Coiled pots are constructed by gradually stacking and joining coils of clay one on top of the other. The coils can be left visible or can be smoothed away depending on your desired aesthetic end result. It is important that the coils join well during construction to avoid cracking or separation during the drying and firing process.
In this class, you will get to design and create your own handmade ceramic pieces by using the coil building method. Students will get 4 lbs of clay to create, and can expect to create between 1-3 pieces.
$55/per person (Summer Price: $45/per person)
**All participants must be 8 years or older**
Students will need to come back to glaze their own piece to give it a colorful and glossy surface. The glazing fee is included in the class, you will get an email notification to schedule your glazing date once we complete a bisque firing for your piece.
