A special reunion of the multi-faceted jazz-fusion Claude Cozens Trio from Cape Town, South Africa, performing for the first time in the UAEThe Claude Cozens Trio is a fusion band that draws inspiration from South African and other traditional jazz sounds, journeying through compositions with extended improvisations, musical experimentation, and dialogue. From vibrant expressions of intriguing space to intense electronic dissonance and depth, the band depicts the diverse emotional experience of growing up in their home culture, Cape “Colourful” culture. They dynamically morph between the acoustic and the electric world, depending on the style of composition and the spontaneity of live performance.
The trio features Kyle Shepherd on piano and keyboards (South Africa), Benjamin Jephta on double bass and electric (South Africa), and Claude Cozens on drums (South Africa). This reunion concert also features new friends who live in the UAE, Ghazi Al-Mulaifi (Kuwait/USA) on guitar and Tona aka Tonatiut Zardon (Cuba) on trumpet.
Highlight Trio performances include Standard Bank Jazz Festival in Makhanda, South Africa, and the main stage of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2015. Since then, the band has split up, living in various cities and working on different projects. The members have joined forces in other formats with other artists and projects over the years but have not met in this Trio format in over a decade. Hence, this is a one of a kind, ten-year reunion.
