About this Event
What to look forward to in this performance.
Tamsin Waley-Cohen (Violin) / Clifton Harrison (Viola) / Jamal Aliyev (Cello) / Fiachra Garvey (Piano)
To open the festival, we’re delighted to welcome acclaimed musicians,English violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, American violist Clifton Harrison, Turkish cellist Jamal Aliyev and Classical Vauxhall’s Artistic Director, Irish pianist Fiachra Garvey for “Comfort In Chaos”.
This concert celebrates the mighty piano quartet and is based around the physical and metaphorical shifting of landscapes.Beethoven’s quartet Op. 16 is traditionally performed as a quintet for piano and winds, yet the composer himself adapted and rearranged the word for piano quartet.
Mahler’s quartet is an unfinished work which was abandoned by the composer in frustration before completion, thus consisting of only one movement, but of the most wonderful musical content. We then present Fung’s Shifting Landscapes, exploring the variety of our physical environment, before ending with a bang in Brahms’ hugely famous G minor piano quartet, a rollercoaster of every emotion possible.
Classical done differently.
Immerse yourself in unforgettable performances as Classical Vauxhall returns for its fourth year. With four distinct performances hosted at St Mark's Church, each with its own unique theme, you’ll journey from the depths of winter towards a heart-warming classical experience that will stay with you all through the season.
This visionary festival, inspired by the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens’ original mission to make entertainment accessible to everyone, is run by Artistic Director Fiachra Garvey and funded by Vauxhall One.
