With an introduction and post-show Q&A with film historian John Martello!The movie opens with Dr. John Markway telling us the story of a 90-year-old house in New England that has had bad luck with its early owners. Dr. Markway is an investigator of paranormal incidents and houses. He and two women who have experienced psychic incidents spend a weekend at the house to investigate. They are joined by the future owner of the house who is only concerned with its property value. Based on the novel by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House, this adaptation with first-rate direction by Robert Wise and fine performances by Julie Harris and Claire Bloom make this a good way to start your Halloween weekend.
