Workshop Schedule:
Week 1:
Introduction to Basic Handbuilding Skills
Materials: 1 pound of clay
Learn pottery terminology, get familiar with equipment and your peers, and explore the basics of handbuilding. You'll experiment with clay while learning key techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab-building.
Week 2:
Introduction to Basic Wheel Throwing
Materials: 1 pound of clay
Dive into the world of wheel throwing! This week focuses on learning the wheel-throwing process, including centering clay and pulling up walls to shape your first pieces.
Week 3:
Paper Towel Holder
Materials: 3 pounds of clay
Put your handbuilding skills to use by creating a functional paper towel holder. This project allows you to apply what you've learned while exploring new shapes and techniques.
Week 4:
Animal-Themed Vase
Materials: 2 pounds of clay
Craft a one-of-a-kind vase with an animal theme! Learn to incorporate decorative elements and use your creativity to design a vase that’s both artistic and functional.
Week 5:
Rain Watering Can
Materials: 2 pounds of clay
Create a unique, functional watering can. You’ll focus on making a piece that balances both form and function while exploring techniques to make spouts and handles.
Week 6:
Luminary
Materials: 2 pounds of clay
In this class, you’ll create a luminary to hold a candle or light. Experiment with cutting, carving, and piercing clay to create interesting light patterns and designs.
Week 7:
Mug with Handle
Materials: 2 pounds of clay
Design and create your own mug, complete with a handle! Learn how to attach handles seamlessly and create a functional yet beautiful mug.
Week 8:
Freestyle Creation
Materials: 2 pounds of clay
This final session gives you the freedom to design and create your own piece, using all the techniques you've learned over the course. With guidance from your instructor, this is your chance to experiment and create something unique to you!
