About this Event
Join us for an illustrated lecture by dancer and choreographer Clarita Filgueiras
Flamenco, a lively musical genre deeply rooted in Spanish culture, carries influences from its exchanges with Cuba. Embedded within its rhythmic structure are echoes of "ritmos de Ida y Vuelta" – rhythms of coming and going. Since the 1800s, Spain has embraced these rhythmic treasures, integrating them into Flamenco's expressive traditions of song, instruments, and dance. Surprisingly, many Cubans remain unaware of this shared heritage. This presentation aims to unveil these connections by showcasing Flamenca Rumba and Guajiras. Join us on a musical journey as we celebrate Flamenco's enduring legacy, where the rhythms of Spain and Cuba converge, connecting continents and cultures through each beat.
Clarita Filgueiras has earned acclaim as one of the foremost Flamenco dancers, garnering respect from peers in the United States and Spain. She has received recognition and awards for her exceptional contributions, including the Choreographer’s Miami Award, the Individual Artist Fellowship, two Folk Artist Awards as a Master Artist, and the Florida Heritage Award. In 2021, she shared the stage with Grammy Award winner Antonio Rey and has collaborated with renowned artists such as the Gypsy Kings, Carlota Santana Flamenco - Vivo Dance Company, and as the lead dancer/choreographer for the Florida Grand Opera’s production of Carmen.
