Author Bennett Parten is visiting Lancaster to speak to the CWRT. His new book, "Somewhere Toward Freedom," tells the incredible story of General Sherman's "March to the Sea" from the perspective of the enslaved people who followed his army. As many as 20,000 slaves self-emancipated to join in the march. They faced their own unique hardships, struggles and victories. Their knowledge, contributions and abilities help the army complete its goals - even though they weren't welcomed by everyone. His discussion will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
This event will take place at Allen Chapel Church.

It begins at 7pm. $5 admission at the door. Everyone is welcome.
*Accessibility Note: There is a rear entrance to the church so that guests do not have to climb the steps on Walnut Street. HOWEVER, Allen Chapel does NOT have handicap access to the chapel. Guests will have to climb a flight of stairs. For those wanting to see the program but are unable to attend, it will be live-streamed. Information on watching the broadcast will be made available prior to the event.
