City of Water Day 2024: Coastal Cleanup in East River Park

This is an In Your Neighborhood event as part of City of Water Day 2024.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center will be hosting a coastal cleanup of the embankment in East River Park from 9am to 10am on Saturday, July 13th. Garbage from the surrounding park accumulates in this area, where it washes out to the East River River. Additionally, high tide brings garbage and debris into the embankment, where it gets trapped in the rock. This area is an important coastal habitat. Join us to remove small and large debris! Gloves and trash pickers will be provided and we encourage all volunteers to bring sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle.

Volunteers will need to maneuver rocky terrain and climb over a small fence so should consider their physical capabilities when signing up. Due to the nature of the terrain, this event is not intended for children under the age of 16.

Guests are welcome to attend the event in full or to leave early, but 11am arrival is encouraged. We will meet in front of the track building in East River Park. The closest entrance into this section of the park is the footbridge at East 6th Street.
