"Destiny" is one of 21 oil paintings created by Jeanne Harris Weaver in honor of her son, 1LT Todd William Weaver, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. The painting depicts Todd during his R&R from his first tour in Iraq, reflecting his time home overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. Todd, a member of the Virginia National Guard, served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and was passionate about the war on terrorism. After his death, Jeanne created a series of paintings inspired by words spoken about him, and they have been exhibited worldwide, including at The College of William and Mary.
For Memorial Day 2025, these paintings will be exhibited at the Porcher House in Cocoa from May 19 to May 23, and again on Memorial Day, May 26. Jeanne will be present Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 3 PM. On Friday, May 23, and Memorial Day, May 26, there will be "Meet the Artist" events with refreshments. On Memorial Day, Jeanne will also participate in the Memorial Day ceremony as the Keynote Speaker, then return to the Porcher House from 6 to 7 PM. The paintings will soon be gifted to The College of William and Mary and the Muscarelle Museum of Art for permanent display. Jeanne continues her artistic work, including designing monuments and teaching iconography, and has written books, including one about her son and the paintings titled Losing Todd: A Mother’s Journey.
