REGISTRATION REQUIRED!Bring your smartphone and wear your boots as we hike the Rocky Dell Valley portion of the Rachel Carson Trail and make observations for the City Nature Challenge. The Rocky Dell Valley is chock-full of wildflowers this time of year, and with a stream cutting through the bottom, an excellent place to flip over rocks in search of salamanders and crayfish.
Participants will be utilizing the iNaturalist app (free) to get in touch with nature, participate in community science initiatives, and most importantly, get the Pittsburgh region high on the leaderboard for the City Nature Challenge!
Unfamiliar with iNaturalist? No experience necessary! We will go over the basics together at this program.
This program includes some steep hills and stream crossings but is not fast paced. Participants may be stopping and bending down frequently. The total hiking distance will be 1 mile and is rated moderately difficult. Adult must register and attend with children under 16. Dress well for outdoor weather.
