"The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. It’s a bioblitz-style competition where cities are in a friendly contest with each other to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people."Using the iNaturalist Ap, we encourage our guests to join us at Huntsville State Park and start making observations and reporting them through the ap. These help local naturalist, biologists and rangers get a clearer view of what lives in our parks. It is helpful to others to see what calls this park home and the invasive plants that might put it at risk. This is a great way for young guests to work on any citizen science projects as well.
Friday Night, Ranger John will be at the Prairie Branch Trail Head from 4pm-7pm helping people with the Ap and tracking what is being seen.
Saturday and Sunday, Ranger Tyler will be at the Nature Center with a table to help people with the Ap. Will have a chart collecting what people are seeing. And will have a scavenger hunt as well.
This is a self-driven program. Observations can be made at camp, day-use, short trails or long trails. Observations can be made in areas that are accessible.
Bring water to stay hydrated and wear weather/activity appropriate gear.
