About this Event

What can the build process offer communities?

In response to our current exhibition, BUILDING: An exhibition under construction, this City Forum will explore public participation in building projects; questioning the long-term impacts for participants and communities, the feasibility of delivering these projects as well as questioning the role of the Architect in all this.

We will explore projects from across the country, looking first to The Star and Shadow Cinema in Shielfield, a DIY venue built by volunteers. Architects Mawson Kerr will discuss their involvement in the project alongside Star and Shadow member Dan Wallder.

We will also be joined by architect Lee Ivett, an architect and designer who works to develop low-budget, socially focused projects from scratch with marginalised communities within the UK and beyond that develop local agency and capacity. Lee working with the Farrell Centre this summer to deliver a project with Northeast Young Dads and Lads charity.
