The application process for the Swatara Township Citizens Police Academy class of 2026 is NOW OPEN! The Citizens Police Academy is a great program for those who plan on starting a career in law enforcement OR who simply have an interest in learning more about policing in Pennsylvania. The Citizens Police Academy meets every Monday evening for two hours for ten weeks. Various topics are taught by our very own police officers who are considered experts in their field. Topics for the class of 2026 include, but are not limited to, Patrol Operations, Police Forensics, Police K-9, Drug Investigations, Major Crime Investigations, DUI and Traffic Enforcement, Use of Force in Law Enforcement, PA Court System and many more. There are field trips built into the program as well which include Dauphin County Prison, the Dauphin County Coroner's Office and Dauphin County Communications (all tours are subject to approval based on availability each year). In order to apply for the Citizens Police Academy you must be at least 16 years of age or older. Applicants have to agree to a criminal background check (please see application). You DO NOT need to be a resident of Swatara Township or Paxtang Borough to apply.
The Swatara Township Citizens Police Academy is a classroom based program and does not have any physical agility components. We provide a safe and relaxed learning environment where our main goal is to educate cadets about the daily job of law enforcement officers.
