What is The Love & Unity Project:

The Love & Unity Project is an organization aimed to create a more unified, just world. Our mission is to combat any bias that places one person or group of people as superior to another, particularly in the areas of race, gender, and class. We create resources, training, and learning opportunities to empower people and communities.

What topics will be discussed in Real Talk About Race? This Faith-Based Facilitated Learning Experience course includes five sessions.

  1. Session 1 - Amy Cooper, George Floyd, and Race in America
  2. Session 2 - White Supremacy Hurts White People Too
  3. Session 3 - Misconceptions and Deflections
  4. Session 4 - Race and Gender
  5. Session 5 - Race and the Kingdom of God.

What day and time are the sessions?

Citizens Church Akron will host these sessions in their villages starting March 6th and meeting through April 3rd, 2022.

How is the course structured? Important!

A) Participants will complete one session per gathering.

B) Each session includes pre-work materials that you will work through individually before your session.

C) Watch the 20–30-minute video lesson and conversation starters to guide the group’s processing and discussion after the video lesson.

What sort of time commitment is involved?

While the time needed could vary depending on the individual and the session, a fair time estimate is independent pre-work (30 minutes), video lesson (15-20 minutes), and group conversation (60 minutes) for a total of approximately 2 hours per week.

What if I am unable or would prefer not to attend an in-person group conversation?

No problem! All participants can join the group either in-person or remotely via Zoom. The post-work can also be completed individually if you prefer or schedule conflict.

What are your COVID-19 Guidelines?

If you are feeling sick, unwell, or exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you do not come. If you do have to cancel because you or a member of your family tests positive for COVID-19, we will issue a refund with documentation of a positive test result.

Masks must be worn at all times, except when eating or drinking. The facilitators and volunteers will practice social distancing.
