Electronic musician Max Hamel presents their workshop devoted to circuit bending consumer electronics devices to create unique electronic instruments and noise-makers. In this workshop, participants will re-purpose and old digital clock radio and turn it into a manipulatably noise instrument by finding and connecting electronic touch points in the circuit board to create noisy, musical, sounds.
Max Hamel makes, modifies, and re-makes instruments for sound creation, experimentation, and performance. Max got their start in musical electronics over a decade ago, after being given a broken, trash-picked Casio keyboard and discovering the art of circuit bending. That set them on a path of musical instrument making and repair, spanning guitar and violin restoration, analog electronic sound synthesis, and recycling yesterday’s trash into tomorrow’s musical instruments. They are driven by the questions of how we can create instruments that are played intuitively, embrace chaos, and encourage reuse and repair in a throwaway culture.
