Inspired by the screwball comedies of the 1930s, director Peter Bogdanovich followed up his Oscar-winning “The Last Picture Show” with this outrageous farce starring Ryan O’Neal as a nebbish professor of musical theory who gets mixed up with the charming Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand).
