Celebrated Italian drama film widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time and a classic of world cinema. 96% in Audience Score On Rotten Tomatoes!
Set in a small Sicilian village after World War II, the film beautifully captures the magic of cinema and its profound impact on a young boy's life.
Told primarily through flashbacks, the film follows a successful film director named Salvatore "Toto" Di Vita. Upon receiving news of the death of his old friend, Alfredo, a projectionist at the local Cinema Paradiso, Salvatore is prompted to reminisce about his childhood in Sicily.
Young Salvatore develops a fascination with films and forms an unbreakable bond with Alfredo, who becomes a mentor and father figure to him. Alfredo teaches Salvatore about life, films, and the art of projection, igniting a passion that ultimately shapes Salvatore's adult life. As Salvatore grows older and experiences his first love, Alfredo encourages him to leave the small town and pursue his dreams of filmmaking.
In Italian with English subtitles.
ENTRANCE ON THE DOOR IS ONLY £3 pp. Please book as we aim to provide refreshments at the intermission for a donation!
This is screened as part of "100 Years of Community Cinema Festival" run by Cinema for All and the British Film Institute.
