"No Other Land" is a 2024 documentary directed by a Palestinian-Israeli collective comprising Basel Adra Hamdan Ballal Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The film provides a harrowing account of the systematic destruction of Masafer Yatta a group of Palestinian villages in the southern West Bank by the Israeli military.
The narrative centers on Basel Adra a Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta who has been resisting the forced displacement of his community since childhood. Throughout his struggle he forms an unexpected friendship with Yuval Abraham an Israeli journalist. Their alliance highlights the stark contrasts between their lived experiences: while Basel faces constant oppression and violence Yuval benefits from freedom and security.
The documentary was filmed over five years capturing real-time footage of home demolitions expulsions and the daily hardships faced by the residents of Masafer Yatta. It serves as both an act of resistance and a call for justice.
"No Other Land" premiered at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2024 where it won the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary and the Berlinale Documentary Award. The film continued to receive critical acclaim culminating in winning the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2 2025.
