Cinebrunch is an exclusive brunch for Filmmaking professionals to connect and discover different areas of filmmaking. In this edition, we will have the pleasure to converse with Production Designer and Art Director Giles Masters.
Giles’ career has spanned over thirty five years, working in Art Departments through the grades of Draughtsman, Assistant Art Director, Art Director, Supervising Art Director to Production Designer.
His credits to date include thirty-five feature films, seven television features and three television series, as well as work on many commercials.
Recent credits as Production Designer in Television include; 'The Old Man' for FX/Hulu, 'Washington Black' for Hulu/Fox, four seasons of the number one rated show on Fox '9-1-1', 'The Mayans M.C.’ Pilot, ‘Shots Fired’, ‘The Bastard Executioner’, ‘The Dovekeepers’- a tent-pole mini series for CBS and Television Movies ‘Horizon’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
Feature Film credits as Production Designer include; ‘Clover’, ‘Haunt’, ‘The Double’ and ‘Leonie’, and as Supervising Art Director or Art Director on; Fred Claus; Angels & Demons, The DaVinci Code, Van Helsing, Sahara, Shanghai Knights, The Mummy Returns, The Mummy, Tomorrow Never Dies, Event Horizon, First Knight, Air America and Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves.
Both ‘The DaVinci Code’ and ‘Angels and Demons’ earned Giles nominations for the Guild Award for Excellence in Design.
Giles is a member of BAFTA, The Television Academy and IATSE. He has also been a member of the British Film Designers Guild for over thirty years, served on the Guild’s Committee for twenty and been Guild Secretary for eight.
In addition to being a designer, Giles also has garnered significant attention from notable Production companies with his screenwriting ability. His screenplay portfolio includes over 18 original projects: ranging from High Concept Action Adventure to Romantic Comedy to Drama to Historical Biopics and he has also written and illustrated a Graphic Novel.
