About this Event
In November, as part of our monthly series of silent films accompanied by a musician, we screened a somewhat forgotten film made at a time when other people were starting to make talking pictures.
Marlene Dietrich is The Woman One Longs For in this 1929 German drama directed by Curtis Bernhardt. Towards the end of her life, Dietrich attached little to no importance to the silent films of her early career, yet she made some 30 of them, including two quite memorable ones, The Ship of Lost Souls and this one, both shot in 1929, the year before The Blue Angel, the film that was to make her a star. But even in this film, Dietrich's style is already apparent, right down to the way the cinematographer films her eyes and legs... the icon is already there.
It will be presented with a musician performing live accompaniment
