Poets Cindy Hunter Morgan and Anita Skeen will be featured at the Copper Chimney Lounge Poetry Series, Sunday, Jan. 12, 4 PM, at the University United Methodist Church (UUMC), 1120 South Harrison Rd., East Lansing — across from MSU and directly north side of the Trowbridge Shopping Center. The event is open to the public and free of charge. Donations are greatly appreciated.There will be a Social Break after the featured poets, during which they will be selling and autographing books.
The 2nd set will include an Open Mic, during which attendees are invited to share a poem (5 min max.) Those wishing to participate should throw their names in the basket at the Gate Table.
Cindy Hunter Morgan serves as Assistant Professor in the English Department at MSU. She is the author of two chapbooks: "The Sultan, The Skater, The Bicycle Maker" and "Apple Season." She is also the author of "Harborless," a 2018 Michigan Notable Book and the winner of the 2017 Moveen Prize in Poetry. Her most recent collection of poetry is "Far Company" (2022).
Anita Skeen is professor emerita in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at MSU, the founding director of the RCAH Center for Poetry and the series editor for Wheelbarrow Books. She is the author of 6 volumes of poetry: "Each Hand a Map" (1986); "Portraits" (1990); "Outside the Frame" (1999); "The Resurrection of the Animals (2002); "Never the Whole Story" (2011); "When We Say Shelter" with poet Jane Taylor (2007); and in collaboration with Laura B. DeLind "The Unauthorized Audubon" (2014) and "Even the Least of These" (2024).
