In honor of Black History Month, we have decided to watch Petit Pays (2020), a film adaptation of Gaël Faye’s 2016 novel of the same name. Petit Pays is a film about Gabriel, a young French-Rwandan boy living a happy childhood in Burundi in the early 1990s, whose idyllic life is shattered as ethnic tensions from the Rwandan genocide spill over, forcing him to confront the harsh realities of war, loss, and his own complex identity. Adapted from Gaël Faye's semi-autobiographical novel, the story powerfully depicts paradise lost through a child's innocent eyes as civil unrest grows.
The film will start promptly at 7:00 PM, and we encourage you to arrive 15 minutes early. Runtime is 1 hour, 51 minutes, and a discussion of the film will follow the showing. Film in French, subtitled in English.
Bring a snack to share! Popcorn and light refreshments will be provided by the Alliance.
