This kickoff event will feature Honduran coffee grown in the Siguatepeque region of Honduras, paired with several offerings from Aladino Cigars showcasing authentic corojo tobacco grown in the Jamastran Valley.
Together, the pairing highlights how Honduran soil, climate, and elevation influence flavor — from the coffee cup to the cigar wrapper.
ABOUT THE COFFEE
This coffee is grown high in the mountains — over 4,000 to 5,400 feet above sea level. Why does this matter?
At higher elevations, cooler temperatures slow the growth of the coffee cherry, allowing the beans to develop greater density and complexity. The result is a coffee with cleaner structure, brighter balance, and more nuanced flavor — qualities that naturally complement the spice, sweetness, and richness of Honduran corojo tobacco.
ABOUT AUTHENTIC COROJO
Corojo was the tobacco of choice in Cuba from the late 1940s through the early 1960s. Over time, blue mold made the variety increasingly difficult to cultivate, causing true corojo to nearly disappear for several decades.
In the late 1990s, farmers introduced hybridized versions by crossing corojo with habano in an effort to preserve its character while improving resistance. However, it was Julio Eiroa of Aladino Cigars who successfully brought back the original, authentic corojo seed, which he grows today in the Jamastran Valley of Honduras.
Authentic corojo is prized for its natural sweetness, elegant cedar notes, and a subtler, more refined spice compared to the hybridized versions used by many other growers.
Much like high-altitude coffee, authentic corojo rewards patience, tradition, and careful cultivation.
COFFEE PREPARATION
Each cup of coffee will be freshly ground and made to order using a French press, allowing the full character of the coffee to shine alongside the cigar pairing.
