About this Event
"In his latest single, Ciar Nixon dives with funerary grace through a sea-stung chronicle of apathy, and the blood-blanching fear of disconnection. The west coast of Scotland’s craggily hewn profile looms; stalwart and saturnine. Come for the cairnside chorus; stay for the saltwater spray of inevitable grey."
- Hadley-James Hoyles, Makar of Teviot Row House
When Glaswegian singer-songwriter’s Ciar Nixon’s bedroom-produced tunes earned him a nomination for the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in 2023, he decided to up his game by collaborating with traditional musicians and producer Luigi Pasquini at Glasgow’s Dystopia studio.
His next single is the product of that focus - a sparse, dark, alt-folk piece with lyrics vividly painting a picture of love and loss in contemporary Scotland juxtaposed against a nostalgia for the nation’s darker, more primal past.
Joining him to celebrate the release of new music are Rachel and Holli - a brand new Glasgow-based, Argyll-born, multi-instrumental trad duo utilising box, keys, fiddle and vocals to breathe life into tunes both traditional and contemporary!
