Chuck Israels is a composer/arranger/bassist and author who’s worked with Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson, John Coltrane, and many others. He’s best known for his work with the Bill Evans Trio from 1961 through 1966, for his pioneering accomplishments in Jazz Repertory as Director of the National Jazz Ensemble from 1973 to 1981, and later as a frequent member of the Barry Harris Trio.
Chuck will bring expanded arrangements of music he helped create with the Bill Evans Trio—indelible, classic pieces made famous in their trio versions—now infused with the living breath and color of added wind instruments, arranged and orchestrated to renew and reinvigorate durable music with contemporary immediacy. An octet of LA’s best jazz players has been assembled by pianist Bill Cunliffe to perform some of these pieces with Chuck. Audiences who’ve experienced this memorable music have been engaged and stimulated from the first note to the last.
