Join us for an interactive musical experience for kids with Slim Harrision's Sunnyland Band! Children get to learn about the rich heritage of traditional folk music, stories, and dances. During the show, kids are given an opportunity to join the "Sunnyland Band" and play along on spoons, jugs, washboards, skiffleboards, limberjacks, washtub bass, PA Dutch “stumpf-fiddles”, African tambourines, Cajun frattrois, Native American whammy-diddles, Chinese "Gao" bead drums, Latin maracas, castanuelas & guiros.
Gates open at 10 a.m. Join us early to play in the park!
About Slim Harrison and the Sunnyland Band
For over 40 years, Slim has performed at Schools and Festivals, Hoedowns & Throwdowns all over North America and around the world.
Considered a "Self-taught" multi-instrumentalist, storyteller & Barn Dance caller, Slim says he, "learned a little bit from everyone I met as I traveled around this great country and around the world!" His greatest joy is sharing the music & dances of America and the world with children & adults.
About the Inner Arbor Trust
The Trust is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in Maryland. The mission of the Inner Arbor Trust is to promote and nurture a park in a unique natural setting for a variety of arts and culture experiences that enrich the entire community. The Trust works to develop Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods into a destination arts and culture park. In addition to operating the Chrysalis amphitheater, the Trust manages a substantial portion of the Park for recreational use.
What to Expect Onsite
Seating
All seating will be on the lawn. Lawn chairs are available for rent ($5 each), or you may bring a blanket or a small lawn chair with no canopy.
Concessions
Concessions including alcoholic beverages available onsite. You may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages (no glass).
ASL Interpretation
American Sign Language interpreters are present at all community concerts and events.

Restrooms are available at the top of Chrysalis hill.

Parking

DIRECTIONS TO LOT 2 (flat)
For GPS purposes, please use the address 11000 Broken Land Parkway, Columbia, MD 21044 (you are going to the flat surface parking lot, not the garage).
From points north: Take 29 South to 175 West (Columbia). Continue as 175 becomes Little Patuxent Parkway, for approximately 2.3 miles. Make a left onto Merriweather Drive and follow the signs to Lot 2, which is to the right.
From points south: Take 29 North to Broken Land Parkway towards Town Center / Merriweather Post Pavilion. Make a right onto Little Patuxent Parkway, continue for approximately 0.2 miles. Make a right onto Merriweather Drive and follow the signs to Lot 2, which is to the right.
DIRECTIONS TO THE CHRYSALIS LOT (limited general parking, location for ADA and priority mobility needs parking)

From points north: Take 29 South to 175 West (Columbia). Continue as 175 becomes Little Patuxent Parkway. Take Little Patuxent Parkway to Symphony Woods Road, make a left. Make the immediate sharp right up a steep driveway.
From points south: Take 29 North to Broken Land Parkway towards Town Center / Merriweather Post Pavilion. Make a right onto Little Patuxent Parkway. Take Little Patuxent Parkway to Symphony Woods Road, make a right. Make the immediate sharp right up a steep driveway.
