PARKING:
To be honest: It's tricky! While there are a few parking lots and decks nearby with handicap accessible parking, all of them still require walking a block or two to get to the parade route.
There are a lot of side street parking options along the route, and people typically flock in from everywhere! With an anticipated 10,000 people in attendance and road closures starting at 2pm, we suggest planning ahead, arriving early, and dressing warm!
Here are a few parking areas to consider:
-City Park, Glenwood Drive NE
-North Parking Deck: 100 Brenau Ave NE
-Hall County Parking Facility: 225 Green Street SE
-Main Street Parking Deck: 301 Main Street SW
*Note that First Baptist Church and the Civic Center are Staging Zones for the Parade

History of this Event:
Starting in 1968, the Hall County Historical Society has been actively involved in promoting and preserving historical interest.
They created Christmas on Green Street in order to celebrate the beautiful history of Green Street within Gainesville, GA.
In 2018, the Main Street Gainesville program partnered with the Historical Society to ensure this incredible tradition lives on as a cornerstone of the holidays in our community. Main Street Gainesville now presents Christmas on Green Street each year on the first Sunday in December, once the Historical Society disbanded.
History of the Hall County Historical Society:
In 1965-67 the Post Office moved from downtown Gainesville to North Green St. and displaced several historical residences. The loss of historic houses on North Green St. precipitated the organization of the Hall County Historical Society, Inc.
In 1975 the Society obtained approval for the Green Street Historic District on the National Register for Historic Places. In 1977 when the Ga. DOT and the City attempted to widen Green Street the Society petitioned the U.S. District Court and obtained a permanent injunction against widening Green Street.
Other projects which have occupied the Hall County Historical Society are:
*Helped develop guidelines for the Gainesville Historic Preservation Ordinance & the Historic Preservation Commission.
*Supports the preservation, redevelopment & revitalization of the South Main St./South Bradford St. area known as Midtown.
*Rescued & hopes to relocate a 1960's era Cold War Nuclear Fallout Shelter.
*Established the Gainesville-Hall Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. which was instrumental in restoring and renovating what was left of the historical Piedmont Hotel that was once owned by CSA General James Longstreet.
*Established the Head's Mill Historic Preservation Trust, Inc. that formed an alliance with the Hall County Commission to purchase & stabilize Head's (Healan) Mill.
*Authored Historic Gainesville & Hall County, An Illustrated History.
*Presents Christmas on Green Street, a Victorian festival on the 1st Sunday in December each year.
