The story of the shepherds being serenaded by the angels in the skies near Bethlehem is one that not only evokes the imagination, but also strains our sense of propriety. As common laborers, unable to participate in worship in the Temple due to their uncleanliness, the shepherds are the first to be invited to go to Bethlehem and meet the Good Shepherd.
