This year’s Christmas Conference offers a chance to pause, reflect and reconnect — using the festive season as a backdrop to explore how our minds work and how we can take care of our psychological wellbeing.Led by Professor Steve Peters, each workshop draws on a familiar part of the festive season to explore key psychological themes. With a balance of insight, reflection and gentle humour, they offer practical ways to support your wellbeing — at Christmas and beyond.
Workshop 1
Father Christmas Asks for Help with His Weight Management
We’ll explore the nature of our drives and how they influence our thoughts and actions. Using Father Christmas as a case study, we’ll look at ways to manage these drives to support healthier, more balanced behaviour.
Workshop 2
The Magical Christmas Fairy Only Exists in a Fantasy World
This session focuses on helping our Chimps accept reality. We’ll explore how to handle mistakes, move on from disappointment, and let go of perfection — supporting ourselves with understanding rather than criticism.
Workshop 3
What is the Psychology Behind Christmas Cards and Dickensian Scenes?
We’ll look at why festive imagery resonates so deeply, and what this tells us about our psychological needs. The session offers insights into self-care and how we can create a more fulfilling everyday life.
Workshop 4
The Christmas Candle Marks Time
This workshop explores the importance of time perspective and how it can bring clarity and calm. We’ll consider why we often lose perspective — and how we can regain it when life feels overwhelming.
