WCAS will be participating in the 125th annual Christmas Bird Count sponsored by the National Audubon Society on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Bob will be compiling the results. Kara will be the contact for helping participants choose their counting locations and grouping members. We count within the Joliet Count Circle, a radius of 7.5 miles centered on the intersection of Larkin Avenue and I-80 in Joliet. Several groups within WCAS participate in the count each year. If you’re new to the count, you may join one of the existing groups, form a new group, or count as an individual. Record each of the bird species seen and the number of each. Bob has copies of the map showing the count circle, and the form needed to record results. You will also need to record the participants in your group, the miles your group walked, the hours spent walking, the miles your group drove, and the hours spent driving, along with your bird totals. You’ll need to get your results to Bob after you’ve completed the count. Bob will bring copies of the map and data form to the November WCAS meeting. Kara will send out additional notices prior to the count. If you haven’t yet done the Christmas Bird Count, please give it a try this year!
