Please join Friends of Wilderness Park’s Natalie Baskin and local bird expert Eric Wieland for the Annual Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, December 20 at 1 PM. Whether you’re an experienced birder, someone hoping to learn a little more about winter bird identification, or simply a person who loves the quiet beauty of being outdoors this time of year, you’re warmly invited to help us complete our Wilderness Park bird tally. The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, and our Wilderness Park count, organized by Friends of Wilderness Park in collaboration with Spring Creek Prairie, is a chance to slow down, breathe the winter air, and notice the life that stays with us through the cold months. Each year, volunteers across the U.S. and Canada step outside to tally the birds in their area, contributing data that supports long-term conservation.
We’ll meet at the Old Cheney entrance to Wilderness Park, and the walk will last about 1.5 hours. Please dress for the weather, bring your binoculars, and come ready for a peaceful winter afternoon—soft light, tall trees, fresh air, and the simple joy of helping with meaningful community science.
