UPDATE-- Angels are all in!!! All of our children on the list now have a loving Angel to help Santa this year! Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible!! The Angel program is my favourite part of the holidays. We aren't like the charity agencies in that you can add your child to the list for gifts. When we look at a family in need of holiday help for the food basket, we basically "adopt" that family. Once a family is chosen to receive a food basket, their children go onto the angel list. Every child listed is part of an adopted basket family. I list each child up by age and gender only. If you want to be a Christmas Angel, select a child that you would like to provide for and you can either go shop for presents, or can donate funds and one of us will shop for you! I will share the notes that I have gathered from mom or dad. If you have any additional questions I will be happy to contact the parents and find out likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc.
It is hard to imagine a Christmas with no gifts, no celebrations... that's the reality our basket families face this year. Each one of the families selected are struggling to keep lights on, and heat in the house. We are reaching out to everyone to help brighten one child's Christmas morning by being an Angel and providing a little something to put under the tree. In many cases, this will be the only thing that Santa brings for them. Despite everything that they have faced this year, these kids still believe that Santa will come through. They still believe, have hope. We have to make sure Santa can make his trip 🎅
Just a note, our basket families represent a very diverse group of ethnicities. That rarely matters when pertaining to most toys, but there are certain instances it does. Items such as dolls for the little ones, it is important to some families that they represent their own backgrounds. If I am giving you information about the child that you have selected to become the Angel for, and I mention their cultural heritage, that means that for this family, it's a very important point. I didn't want to offend any Angels or make you think that I am labeling anyone.
We are trying to have everything in by December 21st to allow time for the families to thaw their hams and turkeys. You don't have to wrap gifts. We feel like the parents should be able to see what is coming in for their children. If it were me, I'd want to know. Just place the items into a bag and label it with the child's first name and their basket number, which I always provide. The basket number is very important, because it is not uncommon for us to have like names for different families. An example, 4 different families that all have a Joseph. As long as that basket number is there, we know exactly which Joseph that bag is for 🙂
There are still children not on the list as we are waiting for their info from mom or dad. I will add them onto the list as they come in!
