The parables alone provide material that neither theologians nor philosophers can ever exhaust. This is indeed a mark of Jesus’ supreme genius. Yet, His teaching is so simple and plain. His method was to convey God’s supreme truth through stories.
St. Matthew said, “Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables. Without a parable He told them nothing.” The New Living Bible translates it this way, “Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables.” No doubt, Jesus taught in parables.
For 2,000 years now these parables have stretched the greatest minds in the world and fed the simplest ones. They have pierced the hardest heart and shaped the greatest souls that have lived on our planet. And we have the blessing of devoting ourselves to these teachings now!
Jesus is going to be our teacher! He will stretch our minds, pierce our hearts and shape our souls! Together we will hope to know God better than we ever have and love Him more than we ever loved Him! All through the parables.
