Chris Hawkins from BBC 6 Music rocks up in Lancaster with his live music club night ‘Awesome Friends’ in association with GIRLBAND!, Tom A Smith & Morton BettsAwesome bands, awesome music, awesome friends
Every music lover has woken up a bit too early to The Chris Hawkins show on BBC 6 Music and now it’s time to hear him at night, live, in Lancaster
Chris Hawkins has a standout show on BBC 6 Music championing alternative anthems and fresh sounds. Chris was an early supporter of emerging acts Sam Fender, Wet Leg and The Lathums, now all headline performers. Awesome Friends will serve as a platform for the same emerging, grass roots acts and those destined to be our future musical heavyweights.
The concept is to package this premise as a dynamic, vibrant live club night that features the most exhilarating up and coming acts and those next in line to dominate headline spots across the world. This could be the next Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall in 76, Glasgow’s King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in 93 or The Grapes Pub Sheffield in 03 and you will have the distinction of saying ‘you were there’.
GIRLBAND! are an alternative three-piece from Nottingham; A formidable force for good and a dynamic group that pull on influences from the 50s to the 90s, creating a joyous, natural musical palette cleanser like no other.
A punk band making pop songs, influences include other seminal three-pieces such as Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana and The Police, as well female-led groups such as The Breeders, The Cranberries and The Pretenders. The girls are, in their own words, ‘a bulletproof wolfpack’.
TOM A SMITH is a 20 year old singer songwriter from Sunderland.
