CHRIS FORSYTH

Chris Forsyth connects the dots between between Television’s anthemic art rock, Bill Frisell’s chiming guitarisms, and Can’s relentless rhythm workouts in taut compositions and mercurial improvisations that have earned the Philadelphia-based guitarist a unique reputation as a leading guitar stylist for jam and non-jam band fans alike. Pitchfork called his music “a near-perfect balance between 70s rock tradition and present day experimentation,” NPR Music named Forsyth “one of rock’s most lyrical guitar improvisors,” and the New York Times calls him “a scrappy and mystical historian… His music humanizes the element of control in rock classicism (and) turns it into a woolly but disciplined ritual.” This concert will feature Forsyth with bassist Douglas McCombs (Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day) and drummer Areif Sless-Kitain (The Eternals, Brokeback).

AXIS: SOVA

Axis: Sova play exuberant, free, and at times corrosive basement riffs molded into song, with guitar moves by Brett Sova and low end by Jeremy Freeze, set to the robo-rhythms of a TR-66 Roland drum machine. Routinely evolving and modifying their sound and direction over their 10 year history, A:S typically make motorik music that will be heard as pop, noise, punk, or psych rock, depending on your attunement. Recent recordings for God?, a Drag City imprint, include the LP, Shampoo You, and the freshly released EP, “Fractal”.
