We’ve been dying to announce this one for quite some time, and now we’re beyond thrilled to say that Chris Difford, quite simply one of the finest lyricists in pop history and co-founder
of the universally-adored Squeeze, will be headlining our first “full” Saturday at the Sound Lounge in Sutton on June 20. Chris will be playing some of the timeless gems in the Squeeze songbook
and gems from his distinguished solo work, and there’ll be an opening set by a good friend of SL, the madly talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Daisy Chute.
Chris Difford is a Grammy nominated and double Ivor Novello Award winning lyricist who has brought us characters and sketches from everyday life, and has successfully turned the mundane into the beautiful, the urbane into the exquisite, for over 40 years.
With his collaborator, Squeeze co-founder Glenn Tilbrook, Chris has written some of the most enduring and best-loved songs of our time such as ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Cool For Cats’ and ‘Labelled With Love’, ‘Tempted’ and many others. Squeeze returned with two new albums in recent years ‘Cradle to the Grave’ in 2015 and ‘The Knowledge’ in 2017, followed by extensive world-wide touring.
Chris hosts songwriting retreats and has done so for over 25 years, some in Prisons, some in Rehabs, but mostly in Somerset with the Buddy Holly Foundation at Pennard House. He is one of the country’s most respected songwriters and has co-written with a host of musicians and performers that reads like a veritable who’s who of the music industry.
His autobiography ‘Some Fantastic Place’ was released in 2017 and found some wonderful praise in the UK press and with fans around the World who recognised his journey into recovery while touring with his friends in Squeeze. The book continues to be part of his solo touring and became the focus of his sell out two week run at the Edinburgh Festival. A stand up show with a bit of sit down.
In 2020 Squeeze were standing still while the global pandemic took centre stage, sadly their tour with Hall and Oates was on hold until 2021. Meanwhile Chris is finding ways of being at home and keeping creative and busy. Online workshops, concerts from home and Podcasts with his chums in the industry. Another book? Who knows.
Daisy Chute is a folk/americana artist with Scottish/American heritage. An award-winning singer and songwriter (BBC, Burnsong, Coffee Music Project, RootsTech), Daisy is mentored by rock royalty Sir Ray Davies and writes heartfelt folk songs with arrangements inspired by her jazz and classical background.

A busy live performer, 2020 saw a change of gear to the world of live streams and she has featured on virtual festivals including Glastonbury, Cambridge Folk, Global Coffee Fest, AmericanaFest UK (AMA), Folk Alliance and was selected to be part of the inaugural Global Music Match by English Folk Expo. Daisy also hosts her own regular live streams - her Window Sessions Live series is every Sunday at 6 on Facebook/YouTube and 7.30 on Twitch, featuring a different theme each week.
When Daisy isn’t songwriting or performing, she features on soundtracks to Film, TV and Games such as The Sims 4, David Attenborough’s ‘A Perfect Planet’ and Danny Boyle’s ‘Yesterday’. She also features on other artists’ records such as Radiohead's latest album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ and Justice’s Grammy-winning ‘Woman Worldwide’.
Daisy's singing has been described as “gorgeous” by Elbow’s Guy Garvey and “exquisitely delicious. Delicate, like a gossamer-winged creature made out of spun gold” by Tony Moore (Soho Radio, The Bedford). Her song ‘London’s on Fire’ was made Record of the Week on BBC Radio Surrey and Sussex and been described as “Absolutely superb. Captivating…the atmospheric London’s on Fire richly deserves the widest possible audience” by Paul Sexton (Billboard, BBC Radio 2, Sunday Times)
