About this Event
C(HORIO) Female Choreographic Showcase
Director/Producer: Sophia Elena Stefanopoulos
Co-Producer: Hannah Lipman
It takes a village to be an artist in New York, hence the name of the project.Phonetically, C(HORIO) sounds like “choreo” as in “choreography”! HORIO, χωριό, is the Greek word for “village”. My village is my community. Being in the arts, it’s essential to have encouraging friends, family, and a strong support system as a village.I owe so much of my artistic journey to the women in my village. They exemplify womanhood with softness and strength; their dualities continuously inspire me. The women I know and love are unique and unstoppable. The female choreographers I’ve sought out to present pieces in the production exemplify these qualities.
Village, community, womanhood, and femininity are at the heart of C(HORIO)’s ethos. These values are integral to our choreographers’ explorations, artistic interpretations, and messages they want to share.
There are 8 wonderful female choreographers presenting pieces: Abigail Rebekah, Ava Gabrielle D’Eon, Arielle Popovsky, Aryanna Allen, Jeryl Palana Pilapil-Brown, Myrto Panagakis, Natalia Sánchez, and Tulia Marshall!
