The Des Moines Choral Society will conclude their 44th season with a masterworks program highlighting Eric Whitacre’s The Sacred Veil. Written in collaboration with poet Charles Anthony Silvestri, The Sacred Veil is a 12-movement work that depicts a poignant and powerful story of love and grief. Silvestri’s wife, Julie, died of ovarian cancer at age 36 in 2005, leaving the poet and their two young children. Including texts from Silvestri, Whitacre, and Julie herself, the intimate, compelling score tells the poet’s story of courtship, love, loss, and the search for solace.The Des Moines Choral Society will conclude this emotional performance with Runestad’s Let My Love Be Heard, Wilberg’s His Voice as the Sound, and Kirchner’s Sweet Rivers, offering hope that love and light that can be found even after the deepest of trials.
