Choir Workshop with Andi Hopgood

Communal singing is one of the most accessible and uplifting ways to bring people together through music.
We are delighted to welcome back vocalist and musician Andi Hopgood to deliver a singing workshop for all abilities. Andi will lead you through some voice and rhythm warm ups, then guide you through learning a song. The groove-based harmonies will be taught by ear, so you don’t need any previous singing experience or an ability to read music – just enthusiasm and a willingness to try something new!
Andi Hopgood is a respected vocalist and musician, having graduated with an MMus in Jazz from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2005. Her musical interests cross jazz, blues, pop, and soul, and she has a passion for improvisation.
Andi has a love for sharing her enthusiasm for music with all kinds of groups. From care homes and schools, to workplaces, swimming pools and festivals, singing builds bonds and forms community.
Andi has years of experience working with singers as a workshop leader, musical director and arranger. She is currently leading choirs including Suffolk Soul Singers, Noteriety, Suffolk Teachers’ Choir and the Cambridge Jazz Festival Choir. She also runs a weekly wellbeing singing group called Singing for the Soul. Andi regularly delivers music and vocal workshops in many settings across the east.
Andi is a member of the London Vocal Project led by Pete Churchill. Being a member of LVP has led to work with Sir John Dankworth, Dame Cleo Laine and Bobby McFerrin. More recently LVP recorded the critically acclaimed CD ‘Mirrors’ with Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone MBE. In 2017, a collaboration with the jazz singer/lyricist Jon Hendricks, led to LVP performing the world premiere of Jon Hendricks’ ‘Miles Ahead’ in New York.
You can also catch Andi and the Cambridge Jazz Festival Choir busking on the 10th November in the Grand Arcade Atrium from 13:00-16:00.
