The future of Chinsegut is being decided, and we need YOU in the room!On January 29th, the Board of County Commissioners will vote on a lease that would allow the Historic Hernando Preservation Society (HHPS) to take over the management and stewardship of the Chinsegut Hill property (the historic Manor House would remain under Tampa Bay History Center control).
Why Is This Urgent?
Chinsegut Hill is at a crossroads. Other organizations are vying for control of the property—some of whom would NOT guarantee public access.
The HHPS proposal is built on three pillars:
- Keeping the Hill Open: Ensuring every resident and visitor can enjoy Chinsegut daily.
- True Preservation: Using our expertise to protect the historic integrity of the site.
- Community Partnerships: Creating a hub for local education, research, and culture.
How You Can Participate:
Attend in Person: We need to show the BOCC that the community supports the HHPS vision. Wear your HHPS gear or historical colors!
Public Comment: There will be an opportunity to speak. Simply stating "I support the HHPS lease because I want the Hill to remain open to the public" is incredibly powerful.
Can't Attend? Please send an email of support to the BOCC before the meeting!
