Chinese Steamboat Station Supper Club

Following a fantastic week long kitchen takeover at Tracks in Forest Gate last month, I am excited to be back to host another fabulous Chinese Steamboat Station Supper Club evening on the 24th November 2022.

Chinese Steamboat (or also known as hotpot or da bin lo in Cantonese) is one of my favourite meals. The meal can last for hours and guests usually have breaks in between and go back for seconds, thirds...

If you are wondering what is Chinese Steamboat - think fondue but instead of hot cheese or oil, a constant simmering pot of delicious stock is placed in the middle of the table to cook your raw ingredients. It's a fun, social and competitive way to eat.

You will have a choice of two different stocks (hot & spicy and non-spicy) to cook your ingredients.

Here's a sample of some of the raw ingredients you could be cooking:

• Tong Ho - Chrysanthemum greens
• Pak choy
• Lotus root
• Oyster mushrooms
• Enoki mushrooms
• Fried tofu
• Tofu knots
• Noodles
• King prawns
• Thinly sliced squid
• Thinly sliced beef
• Fish balls
• Vegan balls
• Vegan dumplings

There will also be a variety of homemade dipping sauces to enhance your tasty cooked morsels.

This is a fantastic meal if you enjoy trying something different and chatting to new people.

Drinks are not included in the cost of this event and this is not a BYO event. Tracks has a great selection of wines, beers, cocktails & soft drinks so you can purchase your drinks from their bar.

Please note: this is a communal supper, so you will be sharing a stock pot with other guests. There will be some tables for guests with no dietary restrictions (so it will include meat & seafood) and a couple tables for VEGAN STEAMBOAT - make sure you pick the correct tickets for this event. As most of the ingredients will be cooked in a sharing stock this supper club is not suitable if you are gluten intolerant or allergic to sesame oil.

I think the other thing that really impressed me was how easy you made it - via the written instructions, ingredient guidance, and friendly encouragement from your staff - to get a really delicious dish together. I'm sure I'm not the only attendee who has been to one of those restaurants  in which the concept is for the customer to assemble the ingredients, and select sauces and seasonings to their taste, and then cook/barbecue it for themselves on a grill in front of everyone. The culinary result in such cases, in my experience, has almost always been inedible, and the experience generally unfulfilling and unedifying. That was most definitely not the case with your supper club. You helped make it easy for us to construct something delicious--100% of the time."
