Every year Durham welcomes the Chinese New Year in style. Join us and enjoy a wonderful display to welcome the Year of the Snake.
The traditional Lion Dance will be performed by Oceans Apart Kung Fu Club.
The first performance will be in Durham Market Place at 12.30pm when the Mayor of Durham will do her best to catch to lucky lettuce and bring good fortune to the city for the coming year!
The following lion dances will be:
12.50pm Prince Bishops Place
1.10pm Elvet Bridge
1.40pm Framwellgate Bridge
2.00pm Market Place
2.20pm Clayport Library
There are additional events for Chinese New Year in various Durham locations – Clayport Library, Dunelm House (Students’ Union) and The Oriental Museum. Activities will include calligraphy, Chinese language, craft stalls for children, music and dance performances.
