Plum blossoms are a classic symbol of traditional Chinese culture. Blooming in the depths of winter, when all else withers, the plum blossom is a testament to the spirit of perseverance in the face of adversity. Renowned as one of the "Four Gentlemen" in Chinese culture, the plum blossom has long been celebrated by scholars and poets as a symbol of purity and resilience, as well as unyielding independence.

Our instructor, Skye, will guide you in experiencing traditional Chinese ink and wash painting by creating a plum blossom scene on a small fan. Sky has been immersed in and practicing traditional Chinese ink and wash painting and calligraphy for more than 10 years. She will explain how to capture the essence of plum blossoms and demonstrate the contrast between thick and light ink, along with the layering techniques that highlight the lingering charm of the flowers. Students will start on rice paper using a template before painting on their fans. Of course, you are encouraged to express your creativity.

The small fans for this workshop are smaller than regular fans and can be used as bookmarks or bag charms, adding a splash of color to your daily life. You will stroll through a “plum blossom garden” and discover your unique fragrance of flowers.
