Join Lynette Shum (Oral History Advisor, Alexander Turnbull Library) to discover the rich history of Pōneke's Chinese community.Chinese Footprints, led by Lynette Shum (Oral History Advisor, Alexander Turnbull Library), will take attendees on a walking tour exploring the rich history of the Chinese in Wellington, much of which has been erased and is now largely invisible to passers-by.
The tour will draw on images, ephemera, and oral history from the collections of the Alexander Turnbull Library.
The tour begins with a scene-setting intro about the history of Chinese in New Zealand, before moving out into the streets. We conclude with activities and discussion over a cup of Chinese tea.
