Chilled Out Walk: Bank Holiday Kirkstall Nature Reserve

Important Note: This Event is also listed on Meetup.com so the number of tickets sold is not an accurate estimate of the number of people attending. We recommend also joining our Meetup group for notifications about new events and more:

Chilled Out Walks are social events for serious hikers and weekend strollers alike, providing casually paced walks through Leeds most beautiful spots whilst making new connections and increasing fitness. We usually meet near Leeds Rail Station for easy access from Leeds and the wider West Yorkshire area then do a walk ending back in the city centre or at a pub/cafe with public transport options back into Leeds.

13:00 is the time we will set off so please aim to arrive for 12:45 or earlier. If you are running late, let Kris know before 13:00 and we can hold the group back a few minutes. Due to members no showing in the past, if we don't see or hear from you by 13:00 we will assume you won't be attending.

Its bank holiday time again so whilst many of us are off work lets take a trip out to Leeds own 'secret beach'. Due to limited public transport services on bank holidays, we will be doing a circular route, ending where we started to make it easier for members to get a bus or train home.

We'll walk along the canal up to the marina, then take a few twists and turns until we reach the non-descript entrance to Kirkstall Nature Reserve which has been called the 'secret beach' of Leeds. This is a hidden gem with a pebble beach, waterfall and plenty of space to lounge around next to the water. We'll take at least a 15 minutes break here, though we may stay longer depending on demand.

From there we will walk up to the main road where Cardigan Fields is and there will be a chance to get drinks/snacks. We'll then make our way back to the canal via another hidden path around the side of the shopping cente, and walk back down to the train station.

The route is about 6 miles each way so you can cut that in half if you'd rather take public transport back into Leeds. The section approaching the nature reserve may be muddy depending on the weather, so it would be a good idea to bring boots, especially if there's been some recent rain.

This event is weather dependant and we may change the start time or push it back to a later date if bad weather is exepcted. Check back here before setting off.

We don't charge for events but we do have running costs. You can help out by getting an entirely optional ticket at a price you choose. Donations of any size are appreciated, though of course we appreciate a lot of people are finacially squeezed these days, so its totally OK if you just want to attend the event - we'll be super happy to see you there.
