We will take you off the beaten trail and bring you inside equatorial wilderness as we search for gorillas, trek through the Congo jungle in National Park, and take in the views from relaxing island lodge on Lake Kivu. This version of our Congo adventure does not include the hike up the volcano.Accompanied by Park Rangers we will traverse through the jungle to home of mountain gorillas. The length of the trek is entirely dependent on the gorillas, sometimes the guides can track them down in less than two hours, other times it takes much longer. Mountain gorillas are nomadic, travelling in families and staying in an area just long enough to clear it of food. They also don’t follow a clear path, you’ll realise when tracking them, they like to meander. On your first sighting, you may see mothers holding their babies, juvenile gorillas playing, or dominant silverbacks keeping an eye out for their family!
Moreover, we will find out why the locals call Tchegera the island of paradise, with the option to enjoy the lake with canoe, snorkel and paddleboard or simply take in the views of surrounding mountains. If we’re lucky, on a clear night you can see the glow of several nearby volcanoes!
Definitely a trip on the wild side with more relaxed approach to seek out gorillas in their habitat and enjoy pristine jungle in the heart of Africa!

DAY 1 // OCT 15 // TCHEGERA ISLAND
Meeting at Dubai Airport Terminal 3 at 00:15 AM for EMIRATES flight at 2:15 AM to Nairobi. Transit and fight to GOMA. Immigration clearance and drive towards Lake Kivu. We will take you to Tchegera island giving you a chance to unwind after a week at work and prepare for the weekend’s adventure. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of Lake Kivu and its myriad of bird species. Activities on the island
include kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkelling or just relaxing on the lakeshore beach.
DAY 2 // MAR 14 // Kibumba
Morning bird spotting and move on to Kibumba, located on the edge of
the Gorilla Sector, where you will settle into your accommodation and enjoy the jungle and nearby villages before an evening briefing on the
gorillas of Virunga with our community ranger Papa Augustin.
Short jungle and village walks. Obtaining of permits and rest in the tented camp.
DAY 3 // MAR 15 // Gorilla Trekking
After jungle breakfast at the lodge, hike to Bukima forest and encounter Eastern Lowland Gorilla families in the wild. Treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, you will make your way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching.
DAY 4 // MAR 16 // Nairobi
After breakfast, you’ll be transported back to Goma Airport on time to catch the return flight to Nairobi and connecting flight home. If you make your visa to Kenya, we should have enough time to catch the dinner at one of the famous restaurants in the city.
